Originally, our biggest concern was whether or not the place would be completed by then, but the builder and his sub-contractors are movin'! This photo was taken approximately one week ago. As of today, all windows are installed, the roof is nearly done, gutters attached, and (thanks to us, and our electrical walk-through), all cable, phone, etc. locations marked and ready. We also OK'd the removal of a wall (cool, they're actually listening to US!), measured for additional cabinetry in the laundry room, and OK'd the placement of all light fixtures. I mean, really. How often do you get to choose the location of every light fixture in your home? Once in a lifetime? Never, maybe? Tuesday we meet with the construction supervisor again to choose paint, doors, hardware, etc., and then it's off the the light shop and the flooring shop for carpet, granite, hardwoods, etc.
As we make these choices, it's all becoming more and more real each day. I can't wait until the drywall is up, the cabinets are in, and it begins to look like a real home. I am anxious to get Camryn in there and get a real "visual" in her mind, let her choose her room, and see her smile when she realizes that giant room at the top of the stairs is ALL FOR HER TOYS!
We're still working through the anxiety of leaving behind the familiar. We talk every day about what will come with us (beds, books, toys, potty seat), and what will stay behind (bathtub, doors, stove). We've checked out some library books on moving, and we try to focus on the fun things, like living closer to friends, having more room to play, and choosing new colors to paint her room. (Right now, the winning combo is hot pink, orange, purple, and blue---yes, all of them! And she's got paint chips from Home Depot to prove it!)
For now though, I'd better get packing!
