National Night Out 2011
This week, our friends, Julie and Dan, organized a great National Night Out event for our neighborhood. We had a great time meeting new neighbors, and watching the kids play. The Washington County Sheriff and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue even visited, with goodies for the kids and vehicles to climb in. The kids played and played, fueled mostly by sugar, and by dark, practically collapsed into their beds. Thanks, Dan and Julie, for a fun evening!

Bend weekend getaway
This weekend, we enjoyed a quick getaway to Bend. It was so good to just enjoy the sunshine, and spend some time with our family and friends!
Friday evening, the girls enjoyed swimming and a movie night with Mimi and Papa, while Brian and I had dinner with friends. Saturday morning, we took our first-ever tour of the Goody's factory. (If you've ever been to Bend or Sunriver, and have never been to Goody's, you're in for a treat! Literally!)
After that, the boys went golfing, and the girls went to the park to play, then off to the Old Mill District for some shopping and lunch. Camryn and Aubrey even got to make their own pizza at Flatbread Community Oven. Yum!
Saturday evening, it was time for bubbles, a few dips in Papa's "pool," and a BBQ dinner. Thanks, Mimi and Papa for hosting us for a quick, weekend getaway! We wish we could have stayed longer!
Hello, litle friend :)
Aubrey and I found a little friend on the playground while Camryn was at camp one day last week. A cute, fluffy, little fledgling, he wandered right up to us, and "talked" to us for quite some time. Aubrey was so good, and never touched him, but talked to him sweetly and encouraged him to find his way back to his mama. Luckily, we saw the mama come check on him before we left, and knew he was safe. :)
Cheer Camp!

Last week, Camryn spent three hours each day at a cheer camp for elementary aged girls. Though spending time outdoors with a friend, doing something that sounded a lot like dance, seemed like it would be fun, in reality, Camryn ended feeling pretty lukewarm about the whole experience.
She loved to learn jumps and make up her own cheers, but wasn't all that into rehearsing them over and over again. She loved the social piece of being with other girls, but didn't have as natural an inclination to the athleticism of it all.
By about Wednesday, she was ready to give it up, but we insisted she finish what she'd started. We made sure she understood that she never had to sign up for cheer again, but that we were proud of her for sticking with it until the end of the week. A difficult, but important lesson.

Long time, no blog
The past two weeks have been a whirlwind. Two days after returning from our Idaho trip, I had some major oral surgery done. Without going into too much gory detail, I can tell you that after a few minor complications, as well as some major swelling and medication, a week of our summer just silently slipped away. It's amazing how narcotics can do that.
The good news is, I'm on the mend, and our blog is about to get some serious updating! So sit back with some popcorn for some good readin'! :)

Welcome, Baby Keira
We are so excited to welcome to the family our brand new niece/cousin, Keira Michelle! She arrived eleven years, almost down to the minute, since Brian and I were married. Quite the anniversary gift, eh?Many of us waited in the hospital all day while Lacey was enduring a difficult labor. By evening, we got to meet the baby, and everyone was so excited!
The next morning, we brought the girls to the hospital to meet their new baby cousin! They wore their "big cousin" tees that Dan and Lacey got them for Christmas, as well as their biggest smiles. :)
Both girls have been very excited, but Aubrey especially has been ecstatic. When she finally got to hold Keira, she just couldn't stop touching her, rubbing her, snuggling her, and trying to kiss her. She already loves her so much!
Kudos to Lacey, who endured a difficult labor, but powered through, and got this sweet little prize as a reward. We are all so excited to get to know her better, and watch her grow. Good work Dan and Lacey!
