Swimming lessons
Swim lessons ended last week, and Camryn is bummed. She made a lot of growth this summer, and is becoming increasingly more comfortable in the water. While we were in Bend, she swam every single day! I love this photo of her during her swim class. She was having a ball!
Weekend in Bend
We spent last weekend with Mimi and Papa and the extended Bailey family for our annual reunion. Before the rest of us arrived though, Camryn traveled over a few days early to spend time with Mimi and Papa all by herself! A special "vacation," all her own! Here are a few highlights from our long weekend...
Swimming at the Juniper Park pool. Although Aubrey is a little more hesitant with regards to the water than her sister is, she did enjoy going down the little slide many, many times.

Visiting the High Desert Museum with Mimi and Papa.
Playing in the kids' climbing room. "Check out the turtle, Mom!"
There were high desert animals everywhere, both statues and real. Our favorites were the bobcat and the porcupine, but this one held still. :)
Learning about bats and how they hear. How is it that we don't have any goofy photos of Brian from this trip? Hmmm...
Chasing Uncle Rob's dog, Jack. He was so patient as Camryn decided they were best buddies. (This is a big step in our family, where contact with a dog is usually marked by ear piercing shrieks from one or both short people...!)
Aubrey watching and wishing she could jump into the hot tub with the big girls. Maybe next year...?

From West to South
It's officially official! Brian has accepted a position as an assistant principal at South Salem high school. :) We are all so proud of him!!!
Though this will bring about big changes for us in the Bailey household, we know how long and hard he has worked to get himself into a position like this one. It holds true promise for his career and a steep learning curve ahead.
For now, Brian is going to have to learn what commuting really means, and we are all going to have to weed through our closets. It's time to stash away all of the "WL Lions" gear we've accumulated over the years, and beef up our wardrobes with some more red, white, and blue, to show our support of the South Salem Saxons!

Parade day!
This morning, Camryn and I participated in a local, small town parade with her dance studio teachers and friends. The girls were invited to wear their dance outfits and recital costumes, ride a pink princess float, and toss candy to the onlookers. It was SO hot out, but we had SO much fun too!

Berry pickin'!
Today we went berry picking with our playgroup friends! We had a great time, but man was it HOT!!! All nine kids and six parents were covered in a lovely mixture of sunscreen, berry goop, dirt, and sweat by the time we left. It was well worth it, though. A summer day with no work and nothing but fresh berries and friends to enjoy...what could be better?
Though I managed to bring home a bucket filled with raspberries and marionberries, we didn't bring many blueberries home. The reason? Our own little blueberry monster! Aubrey would happily stand at a blueberry bush and eat and eat and eat all day long, if I let her. Every time I turned around, she had found another bunch of them. And when they weren't yet ripe? Well, she'd eat them anyway! Green, purple, blue, or somewhere in between...she didn't care! Needless to say, most of my blueberry time was spent corralling her, rather than picking.
While the older kids and moms and dads picked between the vines of the raspberries and marionberries, Aubrey and Addi "picked" dirt. They kept grabbing handfuls and putting it in their buckets. Aubrey even gave it a taste! (Hmmm...not quite as good as those blueberries!)
After picking, we visited the farm's goats, chickens, and rooster. Awww...nice rooster...

Happy birthday to...me?
Today is my birthday. Which is kind of funny, because Camryn is the one who seems to have gotten all of the special attention today. :)
This morning, she joined me in her first ever pedicure. Now don't get me wrong, I do not condone this extraneous expenditure for myself more than a few times a year, let alone for my four year old. And though there certainly isn't much the girl does without, she is not some pampered princess who holds a weekly appointment at the salon. This was a special, mother-daughter birthday outing, and Camryn was thrilled to partake. The girls who worked at the nail salon thought she was so cute as she chatted them up, asking questions about every step of the process. She especially enjoyed the bubbles on her feet, and the dozens of sparkly polishes she was able to choose from.

Treated to a lollipop by the staff, and propped up with pillows...ahhh...what a life!

The best part? When Camryn told someone, "Today is my mom's birthday. She's 22!"
32 or 22? What's one digit, right???

Family reunion
Last weekend, we attended the second annual Semke Family Reunion, hosted by my aunt and uncle on their property in Carlton. The whole family, which includes my grandparents, their six children and spouses, most of their 18 children and some spouses, a few misc girlfriends and boyfriends, and some of their (our) eight kids. It's a big family, folks! Even the dogs are invited.
We have a blast, heading out to the country, where we have a big BBQ feast, talk, play, get dirty, and just basically have a good time spending time together. Much of the family brought their tents and camped out too, though we headed home this year. We all had a great time, but none of us more than Camryn. She had so much fun playing and exploring so many outdoorsy things that we don't have here in the 'burbs. When we left, she was filthy, exhausted, and so, so happy. :) Lucky for us, my dad captured some great photos of all the fun. Enjoy!
