Last September, Aubrey's kindergarten teacher infused the theme of "sunflowers" into every single first week of school lesson. There was reading, math, science, art, writing, and more...all about sunflowers. All year, new weekly themes cropped up, perfectly positioned to align with holidays, school events, etc. There was pizza week, pirate week, insect week, and many, many more. One for each week of the school year.
Then, during the last week of kindergarten in June, she sent a 3 inch sunflower start home with each student, with the directions to plant it in full sun, care for it over the summer, and watch the miracle of learning come full circle.
So all summer, we watched as Aubrey's tiny plant grew into a six foot mammoth sunflower. And just this week, it finally bloomed. A six foot reminder of just how much our girl has grown. :)
